Flood Investigation

Flood investigation refers to investigating and providing analysis of current flooding challenges or, more commonly, potential flood risks. CBA Consultants uses highly sophisticated computer modelling to determine flood risks and potential hazards in changing environmental conditions. We then determine the best options for prevention, mitigation, and management.

CBA Consultants’ flood investigation and reporting may involve analysis of the entire catchment or part of the catchment depending upon the requirements of the client and compliance authorities. CBA Consultants then quantify and model the flood flow and flood levels for a given return period.

Flood investigation and reporting services enable CBA Consultants to identify the optimal site and floor levels for our clients’ buildings. This minimizes or removes the risk of inundation, and satisfies requirements of local government authorities.

Some of the tasks we undertake as part of flood investigation and reporting are:

  • data collection, using GIS, surveying and remote sensing
  • hydrologic and hydraulic computer modelling
  • conducting an Environmental Impact Assessment
  • preparing and processing your Resource Consent application, including management of consultation with Iwi, community groups, and other stakeholders
  • civil design
  • contract administration.

CBA Consultants uses a range of software applications to undertake flood investigation and reporting. These include:

  • Danish Hydraulic Institute tools such as MIKE URBAN, MIKE NET, MIKE SWMM
  • US Army Corps software HEC series as such HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS
  • ILSAX
  • EPANET.
